At the Ajo Historical Society Museum in the old St. Catherine's Indian Mission, these school rules are posted.  They're from a school in Iowa back in 1848.  I'm sorry for the glare, but I tried several different angles and this is the best shot I could get.  I would say things were VERY different back then!   Evidently 'misbehaving to girls' and 'playing cards' were both equally looked down upon.  Maybe that says a lot about why a 'Me too' movement today?  :/  Wearing long nails was itself worth 2 lashes.  Did that mean the girls weren't working hard enough at home? ?

Giving each other ill names?  I know someone who'd be in a lot of trouble for that today!

Interesting how life has changed.  I do think for the most part it's much better!
