DEAR OCTOBER ... YOU ARE ALMOST GONE!

'DEAR OCTOBER,  I LOVE HOW YOU DRESS.'

6 x 8" on Wood Panel

I just realized I hadn't posted this Piece and October is almost gone!
This is another Piece done on a heavily textured wood panel.  The texture is random so the challenge is to find the Painting amongst all the texture.  :)   It was there ... hiding!

All the Reds and Oranges are gone from the Fall colors here.  We are down to just the EverGREENS, the Golds and varying warm shades of Brown.  I posted the following photo in my Newsletter so for those of you that don't receive my Newsletter I thought I would include it here ...

You can see the Tamaracks (or, known by some as Western Larch) turning gold.  This photo was taken not too far from our Home.  We are very fortunate to be surrounded by views like this.  :)  I have a cute story about the local Bears in my Newsletter.  Normally they are up in these hills, but because of the drought this year their normal food supply (Huckleberries.  Lots and lots of huckleberries!) is scarce this year.  So ... our little town has had lots of 4 legged visitors in the last few weeks.  If you are interested in the story you can Click HERE and read about it.

WINTER IS COMING ...

'WINTER AT BROKEN LIMB FALLS'

This is one of those Pieces that is already done before you start.  I did some very heavy texture on this wood panel.  Very abstractly, not really with anything in mind.  When the texture had dried and I went back to look at it, I immediately saw the broken tree limb and the rocks.  I also saw Winter.  I suppose it could have been any other time of the year but for some reason I saw Winter which made it a little more challenging.  Winter and cold ...  I guess it is just around the corner.  :(

FEEL THE HEAT ....

'FEEL THE HEAT.  DANCE OF THE SERENGETI.'

I actually did the background on this Piece quite a while ago.  I had an idea for a collage but when I drew it out on the background (chalk) I was't enamored.  I put the background aside and recently brought it back out again.  What I saw this time was totally different.  The background was done with a brayer; the tree ... a brush and a sponge; and the sun is actually collage.  A lot of different elements coming together to create simplicity.  :)

ASLEEP. UNDER THE NORTHERN LIGHTS.

ASLEEP. UNDER THE NORTHERN LIGHTS.

6 x 6"  Acrylic on Textured Wood Panel.

I have been very fortunate to have seen the Northern Lights, actually, more than several times.  They are truly magnificent.  Since I have seen them more than once I was very surprised some years back when my Hubby and I were on an Alaskan Cruise, and the Captain, in the middle of an Evening Stage show, came on stage, stopped the show, and made everyone get up and go outside to see the lights.  He said that in all the years he had been at Sea he had never seen the Northern Lights.  He was so excited to share the event.  :)  And I have to say, that seeing them while semi-surrounded by massive Icebergs did give the whole experience a surreal feel to it.

EVENING KISS

Here is another piece I did for the Studio Tour recently.  Those are large, beautiful chunks of Chalcedony that make up the front focal point of this Necklace.  Chalcedony is considered by many to be a nuturing stone.  It absorbs negative energy and is said to bring the Mind, Body and Spirit into Harmony along with many other positive traits.   What more can you ask for!

THE FAMILY TREE: "THEY ALL CAN'T BE NATURAL REDHEADS ... CAN THEY?"

THE FAMILY TREE:
"THEY ALL CAN'T BE NATURAL REDHEADS ... CAN THEY?

24 x 30"       SOLD

This was a recent commission piece.  I had done one last year in this style and it sold through a wonderful Seasonal Gallery that carries my work.  This year, the client came back and ordered another one for a Family member that had seen the original piece and wanted one 'just like it'.  I thought they meant 'style wise' and it wasn't until I finished this one that I found out from the Gallery owner that "No, they meant 'just. like. it.'  Fortunately, when the Clients Family member saw the new piece they loved it.  That was a 'Whew!' moment.  :/

'BREAKTHROUGH'

SOLD

You might remember this Piece.  I posted it a couple of weeks ago here on my blog.  It was part of the Studio tour that I recently did.   I didn't tell you about the actual sale though and I thought you might enjoy hearing about it 'just in case'  you might be able to relate.  The Piece  went home with a member of a very prominent Hollywood family whom I did not even recognize until AFTER she left.   I didn't handle the actual sale so I was momentarily oblivious.  The sad thing is, she was actually in my home about 10 years ago as part of a Show I was having for a mutual friend who is a Photographer.  (Long story).  So,  has she changed that much, or ... is my memory just that bad now.

Somehow, I feel it's the latter.  :(
